About Stronachlachar

Stronachlachar is not so much a village as a little collection of odd houses and other buildings which once belonged to Scottish Water when they had a base there. There was once a hotel which is now holiday lets; there are some cottages which are now used as holiday lets; there is a cafe which opens during the holiday season.

Yes - you may well ask 'why bother going to Stronachlachar'? The answer is simple:

It's possibly the most lovely and peaceful location on Loch Katrine
The steamer SS Sir Walter Scot calls at the pier
It is a short distance from Rob Roy MacGregor's birthplace at GlenGyle House
It is close to 'Royal Cottage' which was built for Queen Victoria for the opening of the new water supply to Glasgow - she never used it as the windows all broke during the 21 gun salute!
The cycletrack / footpath from the Trossachs pier at the east end of Loch Katrine ends here
The drive to Stronachlachar from Aberfoyle is one of Scotland's most scenic roads

The distance from Aberfoyle is about 11 miles by road.
